The Age of Pleasure Tour: Janelle Monae 2023

Five years ago, I wrote Creative Genius, Janelle Monae: New Album Released April 27th, 2018 , and today I continue to sing praises for her 2023 Tracks.

Janelle Monae presented her newest album’s music on September 2nd, 2023 at Ridgefield Amphitheater, and I had the pleasure of seeing her perform live!

She graced us with her presence by entering the stage in a ‘Flower Power’ poncho, complimented by floral boots. I know she is quite a versatile artist, but I was impressed to find that through the heavenly vocals of the night, she would have, what I counted to be, 9 costumes.

Following her opening blooming scene, she went on to reveal her sexy black leotard look, accented with a large red flower boutonniere.

Next, she stunned us all with a fun, flirty, midriff-bearing bright-red pant-suit, accompanied with a larger-than-life straw hat. This queen can pull off any look with impeccable style!

My all-time favorite attire of the evening were the Pussypants, that have had people talking since her “PYNK” music video back in 2018. I raved about this in my previous Ode to Janelle Monae article, and am thrilled that I got to witness the creative ensemble, complete with a lovely clit hat!

Her high energy show did not disappoint. This storyteller weaved together a spectacular concert. She went on to sing more songs from her new album, like ‘Only Have Eyes 42’ in a delicate white dress.

Janelle continued the show with what appeared to be a Michael Jackson Tribute costume. Singing some hits from her 2018 album, and also my favorite song “Tightrope” from the 2010 album.

Toward the end of her show, she preached love and acceptance. We need to “Vote the hateful hearts out.” I could not agree more. Shame doesn’t have a seat at our generation’s table. Love is her message, and I’m on board. Welcome to The Age of Pleasure!
